SNYOPSES

Concrete Steel and Paint
(Cindy Burstein and Tony Heriza, 2009, Unrated, 55 mins.)

Is it possible through art to see others in a different light?

When men in a prison art class agree to collaborate with victims of crime to design a mural about healing, their views of punishment, remorse, and forgiveness collide. At times the divide seems too wide to bridge. As the participants begin to work together, mistrust gives way to genuine moments of human contact and common purpose. Their struggle and insights gained are reflected in the art they produce.

Every Little Step
(Adam Del Deo and James D. Stern, 2008, PG-13, 86 mins.)

A journey of 'A Chorus Line'.

EVERY LITTLE STEP explores the journey of A Chorus Line from its ambitious idea to its international phenomenon. It compares the old show to its new found revival. The film displays why the themes are so timeless and universal. It goes behind the scenes and gives the viewer exclusive interviews on the audition process and reveals the dramatic journey of the performers.

Food, Inc.
(Robert Kenner, 2008, PG, 94 min.)

You'll never look at dinner the same way again.

In this film, by director Robert Kenner, the underbelly of the American food industry is revealed. The global food production business puts its emphasis primarily on mass producing large quantities of food at low direct inputs, resulting in enormous profits. Health and safety are often overlooked by the companies and the USDA and FDA in effort to provide cheap food regardless of the negative consequences. FOOD, INC. unveils the shocking truths about what we eat, how it is produced, who we have become as a nation, and where we are headed from here.

Hearth and Harvest
(Greg Matkosky, 2008, Unrated, 60 mins.)

The story of Pennsylvania agriculture.

HEARTH AND HARVEST is a film that chronicles and celebrates the history of Pennsylvania agriculture. WVIA cinematically juxtaposes history and heritage with contemporary practices and issues to convey the chance, challenge, and culture of farming in the Keystone State. From seed to sprawl, from topography to tax credits, from Guernseys to global warming, and boom to bust, HEATH AND HARVEST travels through the state to discover the state of farming in Pennsylvania today.

Herb and Dorothy
(Megumi Sasaki, 2008, Unrated, 89 mins.)

You don't have to be a Rockefeller to collect art.

He was a postal clerk. She was a librarian. With their modest means, the couple managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history. Meet Herb and Dorothy Vogel, whose shared passion and disciplines and defied stereotypes and redefined what it means to be an art collector.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell
(Gini Riticker, 2008, Unrated, 72 min.)

The strength of women.

PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL is a gripping account of a group of strong and visionary women who demanded peace for their country of Liberia which had been ripped to shreds by decades of civil wars. This film has compelling interviews, archival images, and scenes for present day Liberia. This film recounts the experiences and memories of those women who stood up to their tyrannical leader in order to bring peace to their country.

Prom Night in Mississippi
(Paul Saltzman, 2008, Unrated, 90 mins.)

A night to remember.

In 1997, Morgan Freeman made historical offer to the high school in his home town of Charleston, Mississippi-he would pay for the bill of their senior prom under one condition, the prom be integrated. Freeman's offer was shut down; however, he did not lose hope. Over ten years later, the actor offered the high school the same opportunity in hopes of bringing the students together. This time the high school agreed. The film takes the viewer through the experience from the fallout of the initial invitation to the rallying of the senior class as they prepare for their very first integrated prom.

The Cove
(Louie Psihoyos, 2009, PG-13, 92 min.)

Shallow water. Deep Secret.

Off the coast of Japan lies a secret that a few desperate fishermen will stop at nothing to keep hidden from the outside world. The film begins in Taiji, Japan where a former dolphin trainer Ric OBartty has come to set things right after a long search for redemption. He joins forces with filmmaker Louis Psihoyos and the Ocean Preservation Society in hopes to get to the truth of what is really going on in a glistening cove surrounded with barbed wire and "Keep Out" signs and why it matters to everyone in the world.

Tyson
(James Toback, 2008, R, 90 mins.)

Mike Tyson behind the scenes.

In this film, Indie director James Toback displays an intimate portrait of the former heavy weight champion of the world told through Tyson's own words. In TYSON, Mike Tyson reflects and examines his own life in and out of the ring. A complex, fully-rounded human being is revealed. The film takes the viewer through his life starting at his days growing up on the streets of Brooklyn to his life boxing. It is the story of a man who arose out of the worst circumstances and flew to unlimited heights.

Under Our Skin
(Andy Abrahams Wilson, 2008, Unrated, 104 min.)

There's no medicine for someone like you.

Each year thousands go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, told that their symptoms are "all in their head." This groundbreaking documentary investigates the human, medical, and political dimensions of Lyme disease, an emerging epidemic destroying countless numbers of lives. Following the stories of patients and physicians as they battle for their lives and livelihoods, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of our health-care system and its ability to cope with a growing terror under our skin.

Yes Men Fix the World
(Andy Bichlbaum, Mike Bonanno, Kurt Engfehr, 2009, Unrated, 87 mins.)

The Yes Men are back.

The Yes Men are back and no one saw them coming. The notorious troublemakers sneak into corporate events disguised as captains of industry. With their momentary authority they expose the biggest criminals on the planet. This time, they've set their sights on a plethora of manmade disasters, from profiteering after Hurricane Katrina to the environmental disaster in Bhopal. This film is as entertaining as it is effective.
